Porn star Stormy Daniels says she is willing to give back the $130,000 she received from Donald Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen, in October 2016. In exchange, she would be allowed to discuss the yearlong adulterous relationship she says she had with Trump starting in July 2006.
Daniels’ lawyer, Michael Avenatti, sent a letter to Cohen on Monday promising that his client would wire the money to an account of Trump’s choosing by Friday.
According to CNN, under the terms of the deal Avenatti is proposing, Daniels would then be allowed to speak openly about her alleged relationship with Trump—and publish any text messages, photos, or videos related to the president that she may have in her possession.

In addition, Avenatti wants Trump and the shell company that Cohen employed in paying the hush money to make no attempt to block the airing of a 60 Minutes interview that she taped last week:
As we have always said, this is about a search for the truth and the ability of Ms. Clifford to tell the American people what really happened so they can make their own determination. Our offer proves this out.
According to the New York Times, Avenatti’s offer puts the president and Cohen—both of whom deny that Trump had an affair with Daniels—in a challenging position:
- If they agree to Avenatti’s terms, Daniels can speak openly about not only the sexual relationship she claims to have had with Trump shortly after his wife, Melania, gave birth to the couple’s son, Barron, but also about what she describes as an effort to silence her with “hush money”—a payment that may have violated campaign finance laws.
- But if they reject it, it could “be seen as effectively acknowledging the existence of a continuing effort to keep Ms. Clifford silent about an affair that Mr. Cohen and the president say did not happen.”
On Monday’s Late Night, host Stephen Colbert joked,
Trump’s lawyers are considering a challenge to stop ‘60 Minutes’ from airing it. Huh. Why would Donald Trump be scared of a show whose logo is a ticking clock, slowly counting down the seconds until the time is up?
Stormy wants out of her nondisclosure agreement so badly that she’s offered to return the $130,000 payment to end the deal for her silence. And he might take it—because Trump’s going to need the cash for his divorce lawyer.
